The library holds the Church of Ireland's main archive including original surviving parish registers of baptisms, marriages (including marriage banns) and burials. The archive also holds lists and biographies of Church of Ireland clergy, copy wills, pedigrees, vestry minutes and deeds. However, many original records were destroyed by the destruction of The Public Record Office in 1922.

A section of the website called Genealogy deals with and resources held at the library. Various online catalogues of their holdings are available. Staff do not undertake research but can offer advice and guidance. Some of the parish registers under the Parish Register Series and vestry minutes under the Texts and Calendars series have been published and are available to purchase. Raymond Refaussé's A Handlist of Church of Ireland Parish Registers in the Representative Church Body Library is available to purchase from the library.

The Church of Ireland never represented more than a quarter of the population but between 1534 and 1870 it was the state religion and therefore non-Anglicans might have registered marriages and burials and documents such as wills.
