GenGuide is completely non-profit and I enjoy looking out for new resources and keeping the site up to date. I do this for nothing because family history research is all about helping each other. However the cost of maintaining GenGuide means I need your help as well, especially with the site hosting costs.
Obviously not everyone can or will donate but your donation will help keep GenGuide running for yourself and others.
Parish Registers - Baptisms, Marriages & Burials, & Other Records, Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) (Ireland)
Nature of Source
Records of Quaker baptism/birth, marriage and burial/death. Up to 1869 the established church was the Anglican Church of Ireland. Quakers births, marriages and deaths were reported at the local weekly meetings and then to the larger monthly meetings which then entered the events in registers.
Up to 1869 with passing of the Irish Church Act, the established church in Ireland was the Anglican (Protestant) Church of Ireland, although during the 19th century about 85 per cent of the Irish population was Roman Catholic, 10 per cent nonconformists with only about 5 per cent Protestant. Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland parishes often had different names covering different geographical areas. Use Lewis' Topographical Dictionary for locating a particular parish which is available online at www.libraryireland.com/topog/index.php.
